Phoenix put in a rampant first half performance, streaking into a 24-0 half time lead thanks to tries from flanker Ryan Peacey, winger James Wright, number eight Adam Kettle and flanker Rob Devonshire.

Jamie Lennard at fly-half kicked well for Doncaster to add to his side’s lead at the break, as the hosts convincingly picked off a Driffield side who struggled to keep pace with the league leaders during a frantic opening.

Phoenix eased off after the break but were still able to muster up further scores from centre Dave Hankinson and second row Fran Hafija, before the visitors found their feet and hit back with tries from Henry Forbes and Felix Mellon.

The result leaves Phoenix 19 points clear at the top with just one defeat from their 19 games so far.

Wheatley Hills withstood a late comeback by Northern to cling to a slender 19-18 victory.

Tom Buckingham at number six went over twice for Wheatley who also benefited from a penalty try in the first half, with Adam Gillvaray on hand to kick two conversions.

It was a dominant display for the most part from Hills who looked to have wrapped up the game early with two dogged tries resulting from line-out drives, but were almost made to pay late on for not finishing the game off when the visitors hit back from the tee to set up a nervous finish.

Thornensians stay second in Yorkshire Three after they were 29-20 winners at Goole thanks to a four-try haul from Ryan Pilley.

The Thorne number eight helped himself to a first half hat trick to ease his side into a 17-5 half time lead, before adding to winger Rob Brown’s second half effort and a further try from scrum-half Evan Johnson.

Wath on Dearne secured an 18-12 away win at Ripon in Yorkshire Two.

James McCarthy and Joe Earp scored tries.
