Reece Wabara says he turned his back on interest from the Championship to remain at Doncaster Rovers.

The former Manchester City full back this week signed a contract extension with Rovers until the end of the season.

Wabara has since revealed that other “League One and Championship” clubs had shown an interest in stopping short his second spell at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“There was a bit of interest for this window but I always wanted to stay at Doncaster,” said the 23-year-old.

“I love the players and I get along really well with the manager.

“I like the way things are going so I wanted to see how the end of the season pans out.

“I want to get promoted with Doncaster, that’s the plan.

“Ultimately I just wanted to keep playing football,” he added.

“I think I’ve played 27 games this season and it’s really important for my development to keep on playing week in, week out.

“I knew I would do that at Doncaster so that’s the reason for the contract.”

Wabara spent four months on loan at Rovers last season. He is an ever-present in League One this term.
