Clean plastic film, such as bread bags can now be recycled in the plastic carrier bag recycling points at most major supermarkets in the Isle of Axholme.

The message ‘Recycle with carrier bags at larger stores – not at kerbside’ will be placed on packaging to make shoppers aware that plastic film can be recycled.

The following plastics can be recycled:

*Plastic carrier bags

*Plastic bread bags

*Plastic bags from breakfast cereals

*Plastic wrappers from multipacks of cans and plastic bottles

*Plastic wrappers from toilet roll and kitchen towels

*Plastic freezer bags

*Plastic magazine (home delivery) and newspaper wrap

To recycle it, the plastic film must be clean. Unfortunately you can’t recycle bubble wrap, clingfilm, crisp packets, foil pouches or film lids from food trays.

Councillor Nigel Sherwood, cabinet ember for highways and neighbourhoods, said: “North Lincolnshire Council is always looking at ways to increase the amount of recycling.

“It’s incredibly simple to recycle your plastic film now facilities are available at most major supermarkets.

“I’d encourage people to do their bit for the environment and recycle their plastic film.”
