Doncaster’s leisure centres are celebrating a record-breaking summer after more than 77, 000 swimmers visited.

Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust’s (DCLT) swimming facilities, including The Dome, Adwick Leisure Centre, Askern Leisure Centre and Edlington Leisure Centre, have been hugely popular with families over the school break.

The Trust said the excess numbers are down to a series of swimming promotions aimed at encouraging people to take up swimming as part of their fitness regime.

Kraig Kelly, head of leisure at DCLT. said: “Swimming is one of the most important skills a person can learn and I am delighted that so many customers have visited our venues this summer and enjoyed the sport.

“The outside swimming area at the Dome has been particularly popular during the school holidays – with young and old making the most of the sunshine and outdoor facilities.

“Our ‘Passport to Summer’ promotion and our great value splash sessions have been very popular this year and we have had excellent feedback from our customers. As a Trust we are particularly proactive with regards to raising awareness of the benefits of swimming.”
