Less than two months on from Sir Tony Robinson's announcement of a Maid Marian and her Merry Men stage show, it has been revealed that the cast of the beloved children's TV classic - including Marian herself - will reunite for a special appearance next month.

At Oxfordshire’s Thames Con, members of the original cast will appear together in public for the first time since the programme ended in 1994.

Show creator Robinson, who also starred as the scheming, Sheriff of Nottingham, will be joined by Marian herself, Kate Lonergan; Adam Morris, who played the rather dimwitted, vain Robin; and Mike Edmonds and David Lloyd, who played Little Ron and Graeme, the Sheriff’s guard, respectively.

'I know how excited fans will be'

Originally broadcast from 1989 to 1994, Maid Marian put a unique slant on the Robin Hood legend by casting Marian as the fearless brains behind the bandits, and was something of a "Blackadder for kids" with its love of witty wordplay, scathing put-downs and funny pop culture skits.

This will be the first time the cast has been reunited in nearly 25 years.

Event director Zainab Mirmalek said: "It's taken a lot of work to bring the cast together, because they're all so busy, but it's so worth it.

"It was one of my favourite shows growing up, so I know how excited other fans will be."

The cast will be meeting fans, signing autographs, sharing stories and hosting an exclusive interactive workshop. A few attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in recreating classic scenes from the show.

In January, Robinson revealed that he was working on a stage revival of the show - much to the delight of fans.

Thames Con takes place on April 28 at Abingdon and Whitney College. For information and tickets, visit www.thamescon.co.uk
