Pudding prize for Queen of the sprint
Tour de Yorkshire women's race partner Aunt Bessie's has come up with a truly Yorkshire way to crown the race's Queen of the Sprint '“ The Yorkshire Pudding Crown.
Hitech Products rider and one of the world’s top sprinters Kirsten Wild unveiled the crown today on Friday, April 29, at the Hollins Hall Marriott Country Club near Bradford.
The Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire pudding maestros created the crown in anticipation of the women’s race on Saturday 30 April. The Sprinter will be handed the crown on the winners’ podium along with the Aunt Bessie’s Sprint jersey to celebrate not only their win but also the increasing popularity and significance of the Tour de Yorkshire in the professional cycling calendar.
The masterpiece was created by Aunt Bessie’s development chef, Howard Rowell. He said: “The Tour de Yorkshire is fast becoming one of Yorkshire’s most exciting sporting events and what better way to celebrate than with another of Yorkshire’s finest icons – the Yorkshire pudding. We wish all of the cyclists the best of luck on Saturday and can’t wait to see the winner awarded the crown.”
Based in Hull, Aunt Bessie’s is one of Yorkshire’s best loved brands producing family meal time favourites including Yorkshire puddings, potato croquettes and roast potatoes. This is Aunt Bessie’s first sponsorship of a professional cycling race, which came about after the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire in 2015 inspired a group of Aunt Bessie’s employees to cycle across the country for charity.
