We’ve already taken you on a trip down memory lane to the pubs and clubs of 1990s Doncaster, now we are taking a look at some other events from that year in our town.
Nationally, it was the year that US actor and sports star O.J. Simpson was sensationally found not guilty or murder, rogue trader Nick Leeson was blamed for the collapse of Barings Bank and both internet search engine Yahoo and the advent of the DVD were announced for the first time.
It was also the year that troubled Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards went missing and House of Horrors killer Rose West was found guilty and sentenced to life for killing ten girls and women along with her husband Fred West, who had committed suicide ahead of his trial.
Locally, there were events to mark the tenth anniversary of the end of the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike, it was the year that Classic Cliche, ridden by Frankie Dettori triumphed in the St Leger and the year Doncaster’s Grand Theatre closed down.
On the sporting scene, Doncaster Rovers were battling it out in League Divsion Three while the Dons Rugby League played their last ever fixture at Tattersfield. We’ve delved back into our archives to unearth some pictures from 1995 - see if you can spot yourself or your friends.
