A well-known former Doncaster headteacher has died.
John Sheppard, who was formerly headteacher at Adwick School during the 1990s, died on Boxing Day at the age of 69 after a short illness.
Mr Sheppard, who stepped down as head at Adwick in 1998, was also formerly head of geography at Mexborough Grammar School and was keenly involved in the local rugby scene during his career.
His obituary said: ""Well-known within rugby circles, he will be missed both on touchlines and in committee rooms across the county. 'Shep' leaves his wife Hilary, children Rebecca, Ben and Emma and three grandsons who were privileged to share in his life and who will miss his sense of humour, optimism and appetite for life."
Mr Sheppard died in Doncaster Royal Infirmary and a service of thanksgiving will be held at All Saints Church, Owston at noon on January 14, followed by refreshments at Owston Hall.
Shortly before his death, he was made a Privilege of Patron for the county in recognition of his contribution to Yorkshire Rugby.
