Hide AdIts members secured funding from South Yorkshire Community Foundation to help supply traditional West Indian food with dishes like jerk chicken.
It meant one hot meal was supplied each Friday for an eight week period to the elderly and vulnerable, during the coronavirus emergency.
The food was supplied by Caribbean Twist on Nether Hall Road, Room7 @ Rum Rooms at Market Road, and Devon’s Kitchen on High Street, Bentley, and 60 meals are supplied and delivered each week by the Second Generation group.
Marcia Watson, one of the volunteers carrying out deliveries, said: “The weekly food delivery has been well received and appreciated and gives the volunteers the opportunity to check in on our elderly and vulnerable community, that they are ok, if any other support can be offered and a friendly chat is always welcome as some are living alone and look forward to that weekly contact while observing social distancing.”
