Doncaster rocker John Parr has recorded a touching tribute to an international rugby ace who lost a brave battle with terminal cancer.

John, the voice behind 80s rock anthem St Elmo’s Fire, laid down the track in tribute song former St Helens star Steve Prescott who lost his battle with the disease in 2013.

Entitled Man of Steel, the song is accompanied by a touching video showing highlights of Prescott’s life and career.

The full-back, who also played for Hull, Hull Sharks and Wakefield Trinity, touched thousands with the way he battled terminal cancer.

He undertook a series of punishing, fundraising challenges and launched his own Foundation before his death in November 2013.

John, who lives in Sykehouse, made it big in America with hits including St Elmo’s Fire and US No.1 Naughty Naughty.

The Man of Steel song was written by Parr with Richard Allen, and features poignant lyrics about Prescott’s courageous spirit - sung in Parr’s distinctive, gravelly vocals.

Its release comes just days before the Super League awards night, which culminates in the presentation of the Steve Prescott Man of Steel.
