Popular Doncaster businessman dies at 101

The funeral of one of Doncaster’s oldest businessmen has taken place.

George Gregory, part of the Gregory’s Leather family, died last month at the age of 101.

Mr Gregory, a father of two, grandfather of nine and great grandfather of five, spent all his working life at the family business which was established in 1860 and is still going strong today.

The Doncaster-based leather and luggage firm has a store in the Frenchgate Centre but was previously based on St Sepulchre Gate for many years.

As well as being a popular businessman, Mr Gregory also served as a motor mechanic for six years in the Second World War, when he was based in London.

The husband of the late Esme, he leaves two sons, Bob and David.

Mr Gregory died on June 23 and his funeral was held at Rose Hill Crematorium last Friday.
