A Doncaster study centre which has welcomed generations of youngsters is bidding for funding for new buildings for the site.

Austerfield Study Centre has announced plans to develop the centre in the years to come.

And Don Valley MP Caroline Flint has pledged her backing for the plans following a visit.

She said: “Austerfield Study Centre has had a new lease of life as a social enterprise in the last 18 months thanks to Sue Rose and a group of dedicated volunteers. The centre is in a great location, overlooking Austerfield’s Mosaic Trust nature reserve and provides a great residential experience for children, learning about wildlife and nature.

“As well as access to the nature reserve, the centre has a marvellous collection of exotic animals which includes pythons and a pet tarantula. The refurbished old primary school is fantastic and has created a wonderful community resource. It is no wonder over 4,000 children came here last year. I can’t wait to see the plans for the next generation of eco-buildings take shape. This centre deserves support.”

Mrs Rose: “Our volunteers have worked extremely hard and are proud of what has been achieved. It was a pleasure to welcome Caroline and share with her our vision for the future.”

The centre has dormitories for for forty children for overnight trips and a camping area for 30 tents.
