Live music concert from top artist

The Ivanhoe Centre is to host a concert by 16-year-old Tom Donaldson-Badger.

He is a well-known singer with a large following who love his swing and classic style of performing.

Tickets are on sale now at a cost of £6 and concession £5.

The evening is to be held, on Saturday, May 23.

Monthly luncheon club

The Ivanhoe Centre invite you along to their monthly Luncheon club. It takes place on Wednesday, May 20, and the cost is just £3.50 per head, for the two courses.It is served at noon prompt, tickets must be booked in advance, so should you fancy a day away from the pots and pans ring now, and book your place, on 01709 860764.

New session to help with getting a job

A new drop in session has been organised by the job club.

It takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at the Ivanhoe Centre.

Should you need help with CV writing or job searches, then this is the place you need to be.

The opening times are Tuesday 9am to 12noon, and Thursday 10am till 4pm.

Live music arrives at Chapel Lane

The Castle bar in Chapel Lane has been rocking to the sounds of local bands during recent weeks.From 7pm crowds have been given the chance to help their favourite newcomers perform live at the biggest music event Conisbrough has ever seen.Tickets are now on sale for the huge Conisbrough Music Festival, which takes place on June 27. Sword skills at castle

A trio of medieval knights will be returning to Conisbrough Castle to give youngsters the chance to learn sword skills.

Junior knights will learn how our ancestors used to do battle and learn the art of medieval swordsmanship. Those attending will also get to hear the crash of steel on steel during thrilling combat demonstrations.The event is held between Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, from 11am to 5pm. Traditional tasty food on offer

A pie and pea special takes place every Monday at the Ivanhoe Centre, for those wanting traditional food.

It takes place from 10am to 4pm and is priced at £3.50.

Ladies’ group monthly meeting

Conisbrough and Denaby Ladies Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the Ivanhoe Centre.

Annual subscription is £15 with £1 each subsequent meeting attended.Non-members pay £3 per meeting. It includes guest speakers, demonstrations, quizzes, raffles and much more. For details call 07769 200684.


Pubgoers’ charity donation

Customers and staff at The Red Lion pub dug deep to donate £100 to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Kind drinkers dropped coins into collection buckets to boost charity coffers.

The cause is their chosen charity for the year.


Weekly coffee morning

Denaby All Saints Church, invites you along to their weekly coffee morning.

The event is held every Wednesday from 10am until noon.

Scrumptious food is on offer, along with hot drinks, and a bring and buy table.

Drop in for fun play time

Parents and their youngsters are encouraged to spend some quality time together at a play session in Denaby Children’s Centre.The Toddle on to Two session takes place every Monday from 9.30am to 11am.

The session is aimed at youngsters aged from 0-2 and the centre is in School Walk, Denaby.

Weekly bingo session for all

Denaby and Craganour TARA Hall invite you along to their weekly bingo session.

The session takes place every Wednesday evening at 6.30pm at the hall, 6-8 Craganour Place. Refreshments will be served. Contact the hall on 01709869214 for more information.

Children’s craft night for all ages

Children’s Craft nights take place on Thursday evenings at Denaby and Craganour TARA Hall.

The sessions run from 5pm to 7pm. Children should be accompanied, and will enjoy the challenge of various projects.

Centenary Planning Group

Next year marks the centenary of the consecration of Goldthorpe Parish Church.

A group has been set up under the chairmanship of Joe Skitt to plan the events and celebrations.

Anyone is welcome to come and share in the work of the group.

Plans for luncheon club in the church

Goldthorpe Parish Church is planning a to start a luncheon club at the Parish Hall every Thursday.

The club will be held at lunch times and will start at noon.

They need volunteers to prepare, cook and wash up as well as clear away afterwards.

Have your Sunday lunch made for you

Hickleton Golf Club’s Sunday carvery is now well established and becoming extremely popular.

Three courses are available for £11.95 and two courses for just £9.45, with further reductions for children under 10.

The meal is available in the clubhouse between noon and 4pm each week at the club in Lidget Lane.

Join the Women’s Institute

There will be an evening with the Women’s Institute at Mexborough Parish Church Hall, opposite the church on May 13.

The ladies are hoping to meet new people and attract new members.

The evening will begin at 7.30pm. Go along and see what they do.

There will be tea, coffee, cake and a variety of different stalls on offer.

There will be a fee of £1.50.

Martial Arts class offered

A kangchul taekwondo black belt academy class is being offered. A class is held at the UDF dance studio in High Street, Mexborough, each Saturday between 4pm and 5pm.

Korean martial arts and Olympic Sport taekwondo offered and the club is recognised by the national governing body. Classes open to men, women and children.

Heritage society available to meet the public

Mexborough and District Heritage Society are available at Mexborough Library where they can meet the public.

Members of the society will be at the library in John Street on Mondays, from 3pm to 5pm, Thursdays, between 3pm and 5pm and on Fridays from 11am to 4pm and also Saturdays by arrangement.

The sessions gives members of the public the chance to research local history.

Appeal for heritage pictures

Anyone with old pictures of the area is urged to contact a Doncaster heritage group.

Mexborough and District Heritage Society is appealing for anyone with old pictures to share them with the group to use on their website.

Toddler group fun session

Ali Bongos’ toddler group takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Pastures Lodge in Pastures Road, Mexborough.

The sessions run from 10am to 11.30am and are aimed at children aged four and under. Sessions are £2 per child, which includes juice and biscuits.

Get creative with weekly craft group

The Right Up Our Street team from Doncaster Community Arts have a group called MexCRaft.

They meet every Tuesday at Mexborough Library from 10am until 2pm. The session is open to all, so go come along and get creative.


Can you help with a local project?

A local man is appealing for people to help him with his ‘Swinton People’ project.

Craig Mollekin wants to create a dedicated online photo/video gallery of photos/videos of Swinton in years gone by.

Weekly children’s activities taking place

A number of weekly activities are taking place at Brookfield Children’s Centre in Swinton.

On Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm there is a weigh and play free sessions for mums and babies and at the same time a baby clinic drop-in service.

Also on Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 3pm there is a free breast buddies session A further session – Childminder Network – also takes place on Tuesdays, 9.30am to 11.30am.

On Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 3pm there is a Tots and Toddlers session, fee is £1, and it is aimed at ages newborn to five-years-old.

Mini Movers on Thursdays from 10am to 11.30am is a playgroup for young children, fee is £1.

On Fridays from 10am to 11.30am there is an additional session of Tots and Toddlers, fee £1. For details on any of these sessions call 01709 334458.

Dearne Valley Archaeology group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at the Wath Trinity Methodist Church Hall.
