You might have put on a forced grin when opening that garish pair of socks on Christmas Day morning, but if you’ve got some gifts you’d rather see the back of, then help is at hand.

For organisers of our Miles Better Million Campaign are calling for Doncaster people to ditch their unwanted presents and turn them into pounds for our fundraising drive which aims to bring lifesaving radiiotherapy treatments to thousands of the town’s cancer patients for the first time.

We have teamed up with the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust to collect a staggering £1 million which will see a radiotherapy suite installed at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and which will save scores of patients gruelling trips to Sheffield for treatment.

And unwanted presents are now being sought which can be recycled in tombolas and raffles as prizes, with funds from the events going towards our campaign total.

Whether its unwanted toiletries, disliked books, unpopular clothes or bottles of wine and boxes of chocolate that you’ve decided not to tuck into as part of your new year resolutions, they will all be accepted - with some of the items going towards the DCDT’s annual Easter raffle.

Campaign spokesman Jeannette Fish MBE said: “We always need items for raffles and tombolas, so if you’ve got something that you don’t want and that’s gathering dust, now is the time to pass it on to us because it will help us immensely. We will take anything that people don’t want and make good use of it.”

It’s easy to get involved and donate money or unwanted gifts.

You can pledge using the JustGiving website at or direct via the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust’s bank which is Doncaster Co-operative Bank, St. Sepulchre Gate, Doncaster. Account number 50326679. Sort code 089082.
