Pat picks up prize for poop scooping

AN AUCKLEY woman won a hamper for her dogs after showing herself to be a responsible pet owner.

Patricia Robinson, who always picks up after her dogs, greyhound Kerry and Alsatian Freya, was presented with her prize by COun Cynthia Ransome.

The responsible dog owner scheme was launched in May 2010 to combat the problem of dog fouling in public places. Complaints about the problem has since fallen.

Residents are being reminded that if they fail to clean up after their dog they could be prosecuted and fined.

Responsible owners identified by dog wardens are entered into a quarterly prize draw for a ‘doggy hamper’ supplied by Pets At Home.

New figures released by Doncaster Council show that the number of complaints about dog fouling has dropped by 27% in the past year from a high point in 2009/10. This has coincided with a big increase in enforcement.

Patricia Robinson said: “It is not very pleasant or hygienic to stand in dog mess. It takes a couple of seconds to pick it up with a bag, tie a knot in it and find a bin.”
