SOUTH Yorkshire Police has launched its summer drink driving campaign.
Motorists are to be targeted throughout the day and not just at pub closing times.
Throughout June officers will pull over any driver involved in a moving traffic offence or anyone who they suspect of being over the limit or driving while unfit through drugs.
Officers will also be inviting members of the public to voluntarily take a breath test.
Inspector Pete Serhatlic said last June 4,862 drivers were breathalysed across the county with nearly six per cent testing positive or refusing to be tested.
He added: “Our message to drivers is that if you are going out with friends and know you will be drinking, organise alternative transport or a designated driver to ensure everyone gets home safely.”
South Yorkshire Police is advising anyone who knows someone that regularly drives whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs to contact 0114 220 2020 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
