New disabled kids help group formed

An appeal to buy wheelchairs for two little Thurnscoe autistic twins was so successful, their parents have set up a weekly support and fortnightly playgroup for children with additional needs and disabilities.

Paul and Michael Atwal-Brice are launching the Thurnscoe Little Hopefuls group at the Houghton Road Community Centre, on Thursday January 12, from 10am-1pm.

The gay couple are the adoptive parents of five-year-old twins Levi and Lucas and recently raised more than £4,000 for the special wheelchairs so the lads could go on a trip to Disneyland.

Michael told the Times: “During the the appeal, when we were collecting in Tescos, a lot of parents in a similar situation to us wanted to know what funding help was available to them. There didn’t seem to be anywhere in the Dearne Valley they could go to help. We will invite a guest speaker each week from organisations like the Epilepsy Society and Social Services so people can find out what is available for their children.” The group can be contacted on its Facebook group Yorkshire Little Hopefuls or tel: 07595035596.
