New council homes to be built in Conisbrough and Balby

To mark the construction getting underway, special ‘breaking of the ground’ ceremonies have taken place at Old Road in Conisbrough (41 homes) and Warde Avenue in Balby (25 homes).

The new council homes will be a mix of two, three and four bed houses and two bed bungalows.

The developments are being delivered through a partnership between Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, Homes England and Willmott Dixon Construction Limited.

Deputy mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, Coun Glyn Jones, said: “It is tremendous news that construction work is getting underway on two more important housing developments. We have built hundreds of new council homes over the past few years through our dedicated house build programme and work starting on these two new schemes shows our commitment to providing quality homes across our borough which will benefit Doncaster residents.”

Chief executive of St Leger Homes, Paul Tanney, said: “We look forward to managing these properties in Conisbrough and Balby, when building is completed next Summer. These new homes will be provided at an affordable rent, providing more housing opportunities for local people.”

Managing director of Willmott Dixon, Peter Owen, said 180 new homes had been built with Doncaster Council support over recent years and added: “We’re honoured to be working on another project with Doncaster Council to deliver 66 homes and starting on site. This is a great project that is helping to deliver much needed and affordable rented housing to local residents.”
