A new community centre has been officially opened in Balby.

The centre was opened by Doncaster MP, Rosie Winterton, at the centre based in Woodfield Park, the former St Catherine’s site, off Tickhill Road.

The event was organised by local community group, Friends of Woodfield Park who have helped to give the former hospital building a new lease of life that will provide a benefit for the local community.

Lisa Wilkin, a member of Friends of Woodfield Park, said: “It was an excellent night and we now have an amazing local facility for residents to use.”

The community hall is being run by Flourish Enterprises, a social enterprise that provides work and vocational opportunities to people with mental health needs and learning disabilities who need support to get back into education or employment.

Rosie said of the community centre: “It’s fantastic that this community hall has opened in Woodfield Park. I know that local people will really appreciate having this facility on their doorstep and I congratulate everyone involved in this.”
