The hospice is a registered charity, supported by the NHS but largely reliant of the goodwill and generosity of local people. It costs over £3.50 every single minute to run the hospice, that’s over £1.9 million each year.

This year sees the 20th anniversary of care provided by the hospice and as Head of Fundraising my job is to make sure that we raise enough money to keep the doors open for another 20 years.

Monday was an opportunity to spend time with my colleague Vivian who supports anyone who undertakes a personal challenge for the hospice. This includes runners from Haxey and Belton in the Great North Run in September.

Tuesday was spent visiting three of the seven hospice shops, including our shop on the High Street in Epworth.

Wednesday saw me in a meeting with Alison, the Hospice Director, reviewing fundraising over the last year and detailing how we will raise the funds for this year. Although a charity we run like any business and have to look to maximise income and minimise spend!

Thursday and it was back to running! I had a meeting at Glanford Park, home of Scunthorpe United FC to discuss the North Lincolnshire Olympic Year Half Marathon and ‘Hospice Mile’ Fun Run which takes place on Sunday May 6. I found myself not only volunteering to run a mile, but also to do it in fancy dress!

Friday was spent in the company of some of the Isle of Axholme Hospice Supporter Group. The Isle Group is one of a number of groups which arrange events, look after collecting tins, keep in touch with key supporters and link up with local organisations which raise funds for the hospice. Last year the group helped by generating a fantastic £11,500 for hospice funds.

Saturday was spent in my garden, thinning out perennial plants and potting stuff up ready for the Hospice Garden Party on June 24.

What I love about my job is that there is always something different going on, I meet some fantastic people, I work with the most dedicated bunch of colleagues imaginable and I see the results of all the wonderful fundraising in the quality of patient care and support provided by Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
