The two men who were killed when the blazing car they were in crashed in to Doncaster house have been formally identified.

The men were travelling inside a car, believed to be a Renault Megane, which was involved in a collision with a house in Poppyfields Way, Branton, at around 12.50pm on Tuesday August 25.

A third man who was inside the car remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The names of the men have not been released at the wishes of the family.

Temporary Inspector Steve Askham from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Firstly, I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the families of the two men who lost their lives earlier this week.

“Secondly, I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information to help with our investigation – we have many lines of enquiry to pursue and we are very grateful to the local community for their continued support.

“There has been a lot of speculation around the circumstances of this collision and I would like to address some inaccuracies, in order to ensure that the integrity of our ongoing investigation is not compromised.

“All evidence collected by the inquiry indicates that the fire was caused purely by the circumstances of the collision.

“In addition, we are aware that there continues to be speculation over who was sitting where in the car. We are currently unable to establish this information so it forms part of our ongoing investigation.

“We are actively pursuing the suggestion that another vehicle may have been involved and I continue to appeal for any information about vehicles that were in the area at the time of the collision.”

Four people have been arrested in connection with the collision.

Two men, aged 21 and 18, and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 21-year-old Doncaster woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All four have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
