A rave night in memory of a popular Doncaster DJ who died suddenly has raised £6,000 towards the cost of his funeral.
Family, friends and fans of James Vaughan – better known as DJ Vorny – packed The Warehouse Club to pay tribute to the talented 35-year-old.
DJ Vorny performed regularly at the North Bridge Road club.
DJ Vorny’s niece Amy Barlow said of the fundraising event on Sunday: “The Warehouse was full from start to finish, and the door staff had to turn over 300 people away as they were full to capacity.
“There was still an hour’s queue to get in at 2am.
“They had to start operating on a one in one out basis.
“The fundraiser raised nearly £6,000, so we’ll be able to give him the funeral he deserves.”
The 35-year-old DJ, died on Monday May 23, the circumstances surrounding his death are unknown.
The DJ and producer performed regularly at Doncaster’s Warehouse nightclub and at club nights across the country.
Club-goers who attended the event on Sunday took to social media to pay tribute.
Carl Uzzell posted on Facebook: “Wow, everyone who made it to the James Vorny memorial rave last night, which has got to be almost everyone, what a night.
“A massive turn out for our friend our hero and inspiration, Vorny.
“Everyone did him proud and gave him the send off he truly deserves, to be honest I’ve never seen the warehouse so packed.
“They had to turn some people down as the capacity was full, that just goes to show how much Vorny touched everyone’s heart and how much he was loved and appreciated.
“I have to say I truly felt his spirit standing on the left hand side of me as he always did.
“Hope you enjoyed you night last night Vorny mate, gone but never ever forgotten my friend you always will be in my heart and thoughts and alongside me on my future sets bro, love you man.”
A date for the funeral has not been set but money raised along with cash raised from the Exhilaration night in Funkiton in Hull will go towards the costs.
James ‘Vorny’, from Skellow in Doncaster, had been DJ-ing since 2001 at venues including Doncaster’s Warehouse and Plug in Sheffield.
Warehouse club manager Stuart Walker said: “Vorny was an icon of the northern dance scene and a massive part of Full FX and Doncaster Warehouse events.
“His talent was instrumental in driving forward fresh sounds to fans of the UK dance culture.
“Vorny had many friends within the tight-knit northern dance scene and was respected throughout the UK and internationally for his music productions and live DJ sets.”
