A DATE has been set for the official opening of a commemorative garden in honour of a colliery’s miners.
A march of remembrance will start the day that will see a commemorative wall, garden and statue unveiled in the grounds of Edlington Community Centre.
A plaque in the commemorative trust garden will bear the names of the 133 miners who lost their lives at Yorkshire Main Colliery.
The Bishop of Doncaster, Peter Burrows, will lead the march that sets off from the car park adjacent to the village’s Top Club at 10.30am on Saturday, March 9, to the old pit gates where a short service will take place. The statue was designed by Sir Thomas Wharton pupils and created by artist Andrew Farmer.
