Lorry crash trains delay

HUNDREDS of passengers faced delays to their rail journeys between Sheffield and Doncaster yesterday after a lorry struck a bridge in Swinton.

Network Rail sent engineers to check the safety of the bridge which carries the track over a road to make sure it was still safe to use.

A spokesman for Network Rail said the delays affected 23 trains between 7.18am and 8.30am.

She said trains had been forced to move at a slower speed as they crossed the bridge, between Swinton and Mexborough stations on the route.
