John Buckley's Rovers blog: Important to build on win at Cheltenham
I know it wasn’t great against Crawley Town on Saturday but I really don’t understand that at all.
It’s very early days!
And we showed on Tuesday night against Cambridge United just what we are capable of.
I thought we got about them a lot better.

Hide AdI thought we started the game much better and closed them down better.
The shape of the team, which went back to a flat back four, also looked better and we looked dangerous going forward.
It was a massive improvement on Saturday and we deserved to win the game.
One of the big plus points so far this season is the number of chances we are creating.

Hide AdDarren Ferguson actually mentioned on Monday that Rovers had 35 shots on goal and put 50 crosses into the box in the opening two league games.
And that continued against Cambridge as we manufactured plenty of openings and kept their goalkeeper busy.
The flip side of that is if you are creating as many chances as that you would hope for more of a goal return.
It’s a slight concern of mine that I’m not sure we have a natural finisher up front, and that is something the manager might have to address before the transfer window shuts.

Hide AdSaying that, John Marquis played very well and deserved his goal.
The boy puts himself about and is a handful. He keeps getting in there where it counts. It’s important that he got his first goal, especially after the penalty miss, and hopefully he can go on a bit of a run now.
We have to take all the good stuff we did on Tuesday night into the game on Saturday now and build on that first win.
We’ll go there to try and win the game, and take the game to them, but I’d be fairly satisfied if we did not lose it.
