Hunt for wildlife volunteers

WILDLIFE experts are looking for local volunteers to take part in a water vole survey on Thorne Moors National Nature Reserve.

The Habitat Heroes project, run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with the Co-operative Farms, aims to find a link between habitat and water vole populations.

It will be using satellite tracking and an assessment of the local habitat to help them thrive in future.

The project is now in its third phase.

Results of a previous search found that, in 2012, field signs were found in 14 per cent of the 95km surveyed, up from 10 per cent in 2011.

A spokesman for the Habitat Heros project said that volunteers need no experience but must have lots of enthusiasm.
