October is national cholesterol month and North Lincolnshire Council is urging Isle residents to get their heart health checked at one of many drop ins running.
Over half of adults in the UK have high blood cholesterol. This can cause dangerous problems for your heart health, and increases your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
This is why NLC is calling on people to get their cholesterol checked as part of a heart health check during Cholesterol Month.
It is particularly important for people aged 40 and over, or for those with a family of high cholesterol.
Many people don’t know that their cholesterol is too high in the first place, leaving the condition untreated.
Councillor Rob Waltham, cabinet member for Health and Strategic Projects, said: National Cholesterol Month is a great opportunity to have a conversation with your community health checks nurse at one of the health check sessions.
“If your cholesterol is too high, it’s very important to bring your levels down by looking at making health changes to your lifestyle.
“You may think your cholesterol is fine, but it is always better get it checked. Go along to one of the NHS Health Check sessions and get your heart health checked.
“It will only take 20 minutes of your time and could make a huge difference to your life.”
Vicky Ellis, NHS Health Checks Co-ordinator (NLAG), said:
“I would encourage people to have their NHS Health Check as conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and diabetes do not necessarily cause any symptoms.
“Also, it’s important for people to know what their ‘good’ cholesterol level is as it’s vital for heart health. So take control and help your heart stay healthy.”
Health checks are taking place at:
Crowle Community Wellbeing Hub on Friday October 9, 10am-4pm
St Oswalds Church Hall, Station Road, Keadby on Tuesday October 13, 10am-4pm
Keadby and Althorpe Working Men’s Club, Station Road on Thursday October 22, noon-6pm
The health checks are held on a drop-in basis but appointments can also be made by calling 01724 292170.
The tests are carried out on the day and you get your results there and then with an explanation as to what they mean.
