A group that works with elderly people to stop them being lonely has celebrated its 10th birthday with a party. Thorne’s Smile a While group was formed for elderly people who had become isolated from their community.
The group, which is run by staff from Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust has gone from strength to strength and currently has 25 members with a age range from 50 to 90 who meet every Tuesday at the Older People’s Community Centre.
Because of the success of the group, organiser Linda Matthews has started Smile a While 2, who meet on a Monday. Anyone wanting to join either should call 01302 735977.
