Patients, staff and visitors to Rotherham General Hospital are being warned to expect delays during road works outside the hospital.

People are being asked to allow more time for their journeys during resurfacing work on Moorgate Road.

Diversions will be in place from July 21, taking drivers and those using public transport on a slightly extended route to get to the hospital.

The work is expected to take no longer than five working days to complete, but the council has allowed a two week period incase there are unexpected delays.

ohn Cartwright, director of estates & facilities at the hospital, said: “We’re asking those coming to hospital for appointments, to visit loved ones or travelling here for work, to allow extra time so that appointments aren’t missed and to ensure the Trust continues to deliver high quality services.

“Alongside the council, we have worked closely with local travel providers and residents to ensure the work causes as little disruption as possible. Long-term, we are pleased the work will lead to improved road conditions for our patients, visitors and staff.”

Buses will continue to run regularly in the area and bus stops on Baker Street, adjacent to Moorgate Road and near to the hospital main entrance, will still be in use.

Ambulances and other emergency vehicles will continue to have full, quick and safe access in and out of the hospital.
