A new consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with a special interest in keyhole surgery has ‘returned home’.
Miss Preeti Gandhi has been appointed as a consultant after working as a locum for more than a year at Scunthorpe hospital.
Miss Gandhi completed her medical degree in India in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2000 and moved to the UK in 2004 where she continued her training with the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery.
She is not new to Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust having worked first as a senior house officer and then as a registrar at Scunthorpe, Goole and Grimsby hospitals. She returned to Scunthorpe more than a year ago as a locum consultant and was appointed as a consultant last month.
Miss Gandhi said: “I am absolutely delighted to join the Trust as a consultant. It feels as if I am home. My aim is to continue to provide excellent services and to improve the quality wherever we can to ensure our patients have a positive experience.”
From being a child she was always attracted to medicine. She said: “I wanted to help people to get better. I could never bear to see people in pain and that was my drive from the beginning. I felt I should do something for society, to help cure people’s pain or illness.”
She said she was attracted to obstetrics and gynaecology because: “It is such a beautiful speciality particularly delivering a baby. The satisfaction and the reward of helping to bring a new life into this world is immense.
“It is also extremely rewarding to be able to help women suffering with pelvic pain, menstrual problems, and fertility issues. It is hugely satisfying.”
When not delivering babies, Miss Gandhi specialises in keyhole surgery and her work involves seeing women with menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts.
She is also interested in teaching, training and research and has written various articles for journals.
She joins consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and associate medical director Mr Lawrence Roberts, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and lead for gynaecology Mr Franz Ndumbe and consultant gynaecologist Mr Chin Hooi Gan.
