THE out-of-hours GP service provided to people in Doncaster has been rated one of the best in the country in a new report by the Primary Care Foundation.
The report analysed the availability of out-of-hours care, patient satisfaction, and the quality of the services provided, scoring each area on a range of measures including how easy it was to get through on the phone.
Even though Doncaster had the highest number of requests for out-of-hours care in the country, the service – which is managed by Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – scored as one of the top performers across the board.
It had the shortest waiting times from patients’ initial phone call to in-depth assessment by a suitably-qualified healthcare professional.
It was also one of the best in the UK for patient satisfaction on time taken to respond, patient satisfaction on the quality of care received and ease of contacting the service by phone.
Michelle Veitch, General Manager for A&E, Unplanned Care and Out-of-Hours, said: “Locating this GP service within the hospital’s Emergency Department and managed by the same team has massive benefits for patients because it means that all urgent out-of-hours healthcare in Doncaster is coordinated, with all the different elements working closely together to ensure people receive the care they need.”
