GB riders in for big race?

cyclists from the Great Britain Olympic squad have been invited to take part in Doncaster’s first-ever Super Cross event next month.

The tough off-road biking race will take place at Doncaster Lakeside with riders based at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Organised by Doncaster Council’s tourism team in association with Doncaster Wheelers and British Cycling, it is hoped the event will be held on an annual basis to attract an international field of competitors and spectators.

The event on Saturday, October 22, promises an action-packed form of off-road cycle racing with a short, intense technical course that offers a great physical challenge each lap and should make for a fantastic spectacle.

The race is the ideal preparation for members of the 2012 British Olympic mountain bike team, who will all be receiving an invitation to compete.

Full stadium facilities will be available for all cyclists including changing rooms, showers, catering, trade stands and a bike jet wash.

Mayor Peter Davies said: “This looks set to be a fantastic event for both cycling enthusiasts and spectators alike.”

Riders wanting to race can email Chris Morrey at Doncaster Wheelers on email or call 07964 927 731.
