Gang charged with rail cable thefts


SIX men are set to appear in court over a six-month spate of cable thefts worth £250,000.

Paul Hull, 20, of Scawsthorpe, James Robinson, 21, of Station Road, Doncaster, Christopher Hunter, 28 from Arthur Street, Bentley, Andrew Walkden, 20, from Bentley, Aaron Sampson, 21, from Jardine Walk, Sheffield and Aaron Platts, 21, from Washington Grove, Bentley, have all been charged with conspiracy to steal cable.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Six men have been charged with conspiracy to steal railway cable in relation to 21 offences that took place in the Bentley area of Doncaster over a six-month period from 1 March to 31 August 2011.

“The thefts are estimated to have cost the rail industry approximately £250,000.”

All six have been released on police bail to attend Doncaster Magistrates Court on August 21.
