Fundraising appeal to help Doncaster homeless man attacked in shop doorway

Well-wishers are determined to raise money to ensure 52-year-old Karl Notley has somewhere safe to stay when he comes out of hospital following the attack that left him in a coma.

Mr Notley is currently in a ‘critical but stable’ condition after being attacked outside the British Heart Foundation Shop on Printing Office Street in the early hours of August 10.

A Just Giving page set up to raise money has already surpassed its £200 target – with the current total standing at nearly £800.

The money raised will be used to pay for accommodation for Mr Notley when he is discharged from hospital to help with his recovery.

The fundraising page states: “We’re raising money and awareness to help our friend after he was assaulted and nearly died in a shop doorway.

“Karl is a gentle friendly dignified soul.

“We hope ideally to raise enough to pay for a room to ensure he’s comfortable upon his hospital discharge and we hope you can help us show Karl that it is not a dog eat dog world but that he can trust and accept help in the form of solidarity.

“This can happen too easily to anyone.”

Daniel James Walker, aged 27, of Grange Road, Woodlands, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident and appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court last week.

He was refused bail and was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court on September 8.

Two other men, aged 30 and 32, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have been bailed pending further enquiries by police.
