MEMBERS of a junior football team at Wombwell can breathe a sigh of relief - for now.
Officials at the Wombwell junior side that has run for just three seasons but has over 130 players, feared they may lose their pitches when Wombwell High School closes its doors in July.
But they have now been told that the Lundhill fields are Barnsley Council-controlled, but entirely separate to the school and grounds, so will be safe for the foreseeable future.
A club spokesman said the teams that range from U7s to U13s include one girls’ team, which the club hopes to expand. He said: “Ideally we would like to have toilets and changing facilities up there.”
