The Silver Street pie maker was handed a 0 rating in August last year - the lowest possible - and inspectors said the shop required ‘urgent improvement’.

Since then the business has appointed a new restaurant team and FSA inspectors handed the establishment a four out of five star rating following a visit in February.

Owner Andy Milner said: “There is no hiding from the fact we received a bit of a hiding from the Food Standards Agency when they paid us a visit in August 2015. We would like to let our customers know that food was always, prepared and cooked to the high quality standards a customer would expect to receive.”

He accepted however that other areas of the business such as “paperwork” were not up to standard and these issues have now been addressed.

Mr Milner added: “We have changed the way we operate internally and we have taken on new team members including head chef, Daniel Sey. He is a chef with years of experience, working at quality establishments, including being the head chef at the very famous Cabbage Patch Eatery in Twickenham. 2016 is an exciting year for us as we have many tasty announcements on the way, new additions to the menu and perhaps a new service or two.”

Around 100, 000 people have bought their pies since 2012.
