Flood defence investment boost urged by Isle of Axholme MP

A flood defence boost for North Ferriby to protect local residents and businesses from future flood threats was discussed when Isle MP, Andrew Percy, met interim minister for flooding issues, David Rutley MP (pictured).

The Isle MP also discussed protection of people and businesses as part of the wider Humber flood defence strategy.

Andrew Percy said: “I had a very useful meeting with the Interim Flooding Minister David Rutley to discuss the £40-million fund that was announced during the Autumn Budget to boost regeneration in communities that are at a high risk of flooding.”

He added: “I was happy to hear that the Department will be making decisions on funding allocations over the summer, and was glad to lobby on behalf of the South Ferriby flood defence scheme.

“I also met with the Minister again a few days after the above meeting. I joined neighbouring MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, to discuss the wider Humber flood defence strategy with the Minister. We discussed flood defence work following the tidal surge in December 2013. Flooding is of course a major concern for many of my constituents, which is why I will continue to work with the Government and others on this issue.”
