Bus company First has teamed up with national campaign charity Brake to promote road safety awareness.

Safety is a way of life at First and the partnership with Brake represents the latest initiative in the South Yorkshire area to provide the highest levels of safety for all First colleagues and customers.

Brake is a national road safety charity that works to make streets and communities safer for everyone and provide care for families bereaved and injured in road crashes. As a partner, First’s support contributes to the costs of running the helpline providing care for those affected by road crashes.

Brake also promotes road safety awareness through education, training and national campaigns such as the role they play coordinating the UK’s flagship annual road safety event, Road Safety Week. This year’s Road Safety Week is being held from 17 November to 23 November and involves thousands of schools, organisations and community groups.

First will be participating in a number of Road Safety Week activities around the theme of “Look out for each other” involving the communities of South Yorkshire and First colleagues. Details on these events will be announced shortly.

Ben Gilligan, managing director for First in South Yorkshire, added: “We’re delighted to be working closely with Brake. Safety is a way of life for everyone at First and the partnership with Brake will help us promote safety behaviours even further with our colleagues and with all road users.

Mike Bristow, Corporate Fundraiser at Brake, “Brake are delighted that First have committed to supporting the charity, and to raising awareness about road safety. I applaud their dedication to supporting road crash victims, and passion for improving road safety.

“Their efforts are a fantastic example of how companies can get involved to improve road safety and Brake are looking forward to a long-lasting partnership with First.”
