Fire crews spend 12 hours tackling huge Doncaster scrap metal plant blaze

More than 60 firefighters and 12 fire engines have been at the plant in Balby Carr Bank since just after 9pm last night – and people have been advised to stay away from the area and to keep doors and windows closed.
In its latest update, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has said that crews remain at the scene, understood to be at Morris Metals, which has a large factory site on the J3 Business Park alongside the East Coast Main Line railway line.

Hide AdSharing dramatic photos of the blaze on Twitter, a spokesman said: “Some overnight photos from the large incident we've been dealing with in Doncaster.
“There's still smoke in the area.
“Affected residents should keep windows and doors closed.
“Motorists affected by the smoke are advised to close windows and turn off air con.”
The plume of smoke from the blaze has been spotted from as far away as 50 miles away, with people living in Grantham, Lincolnshire saying they could see smoke from the blaze.
Rail traffic on the nearby East Coast Main Line has not been impacted and the fire has also not caused issues for drivers on the nearby M18.
