Part of Epworth was cordoned off yesterday for safety reasons after a telegraph pole snapped off at the base.

The incident happened in Pashley Walk at 3.50pm and caused electrical cables to arch across the road.

Firefighters cordoned off the area until electrical engineers arrived to isolate the power.

The cause is under investigation.

Elsewhere, firefighters were called out to Church Street in Owston Ferry after a lawnmower caught fire.

The incident happened at 1.30am this morning and crews used one hose reel to extinguish the blaze.

A woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators are probing the cause.
