CARING Mexborough School pupils (and staff) served, sang and lifted the spirits of residents of Highgrove Nursing Home.
To raise cash for the Christmas party they hosted, members of the Friends of Mexborough School, with 15 students and five staff, packed bags for supermarket customers at Cortonwood shopping centre.
Then, armed with food and gifts bought with the £277 proceeds, they descended on Highgrove....
Community stalwart Tommy Joyce got involved - and even Santa turned up to deliver presents and a hand written card from the headteacher to every resident.
Science teacher Steve Laing got everyone’s toes tapping with his Beatles medley on the organ, then everyone joined in when he launched in to the old favourite White Christmas.
The choir sang, conducted by teacher Sara Potts, as the guitar group turned up the tempo for seasonal carols, and everyone enjoyed a final rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
A full buffet was prepared by the school’s award-winning kitchen staff, and enjoyed by the partygoers.
Gail Taylor, head of Community and Transition at Mexborough School, said: “All in all it was a wonderful and very moving experience which we hope to repeat next year”
Last Wednesday the school enjoyed more festivity, when it held its Christmas concert, at which mince pies and non-alcoholic mulled wine were served.
