Virtually every child in Doncaster has been offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools.

In total, 99 per cent of children across Doncaster have been offered a place at one of top three schools with 95 per cent receiving a place at their first choice school.

Out of almost 3,000 applications, 38 children did not receive a place at one of their preferred schools.

Doncaster Council has confirmed all of those children have been offered a place at a local school and staff have worked with families to identify alternative places.

Parents of children who have been unsuccessful in getting a preferred place have been offered the right to an independent appeal.

This is the first time parents have been asked to apply for school places online.

The move saw applications increase from 35 per cent last year to 89 per cent this year.

Doncaster Council’s lead member for children’s services, Coun Nuala Fennelly, said: “I am extremely pleased the statistics represent a sustained performance on last year and it is testament to our ongoing commitment to try and ensure as many children as possible start the next academic year at one of their preferred schools.”
