All Saints Primary School in Harworth has invested in new musical instruments alongside a new music course called Charanga.
The instruments will be used by all children in the school starting at Foundation Stage and going right through to Year 6.
The children got their first taste of playing authentic African rhythms on d’jembe drums with a visit from specialist Victor Scott, who came into the school and ran workshops showing the children basic drumming techniques and putting together short rhythmic patterns based on African rhythms.
The school has enough d’jembes for a full class to be working with them, together with other percussion instruments from around the world. The full set includes bento shakers, m’bira thumb pianos, bongos and guiros.
