A rocking chair handmade by the woodwork class from Thorne Social Education Centre is to be auctioned off at Thorne Market on Friday.

The class hopes the pine chair will raise about £80 for the centre, which is for adults with learning disabilities.

Coun Pat Knight, cabinet member for health and adult social care, said: “The rocking chair they have produced at the centre is fantastic – it shows a real talent – let’s hope it raises lots of cash for charity.”

Thorne Market is held four days a week but is particularly busy on a Friday when it is at its most colourful – selling a variety of local produce.

Thorne Social Education Centre is a facility for adults with learning difficulties and offers a variety of activities and training to meet individual needs.
