Doncaster trust takes delivery of first electric vehicle

A Balby-based trust has taken delivery of its first electric delivery van in a bid to save money and reduce carbon emissions.

Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) introduced the Nissan eNV200 van to its fleet this month after road testing a similar model in 2015 - and staff are so impressed with its performance they’ve ordered another three!

RDaSH Logistics Manager Ken Harwood said: “We’re really excited to be making the switch.

“Over its three year lease this van will save us over £4,800 in lease and running costs, so it makes perfect sense to replace our other diesel operated vans when they are lease expired.”

The van’s battery range is around 85 miles, which means it will easily cover journeys around the local area, and overnight charging will ensure the battery reaches its full capacity ready to start each day on full charge. The difference in cost works out at around 3p per mile compared to 10/13p for the vehicles they are replacing.

Ken added: “Use of electric vehicles will help RDaSH achieve its target carbon savings and demonstrates our commitment to fighting climate change.”
