Kyle Bennett says it is important Doncaster Rovers fans stay onside with the team during their quest for more goals.

Rovers failed to score for the seventh time at home this season on Tuesday night when a goalless draw with Notts County denied them a place in the top six.

Tenth-placed Rovers take a rare break from League One action this weekend after their scheduled meeting with Bristol City was postponed due to the Robins’ continued involvement in the FA Cup - at the expense of Doncaster.

And winger Bennett says when Rovers resume their play-off push later this month it is vital supporters remain patient with the team.

“It [the lack goals at home] is disappointing, but the fans have got to stick with us,” said Bennett, who has four goals to his name this season.

“We’re doing our best.

“We’re creating chances and we’re doing well as a team. The effort’s there, everyone’s pulling their weight.

“It was obviously frustrating [on Tuesday night].

“We were knocking at the door for quite a while.

“It’s just about converting those chances into goals.

“I think we played well enough as a team. We were compact and didn’t really look like conceding.”

Despite struggling for goals at the Keepmoat Stadium - where Rovers have scored just nine times in 12 league matches - a six-match unbeaten run in the league will see Rovers make the short trip to Chesterfield a week on Saturday in good spirits.

“We’ve been more consistent in recent weeks,” said Bennett.

“It’s a good platform to start from.

“We’re picking up some points now and we’re just a point of the play-offs, so we’re within touching distance with about 20 games to go.

“It would have been a boost to get into the top six on Tuesday night but it’s all about where you are at the end of the season.

“There’s still a lot of football to be played and a lot of points to be picked up.”
