Thorsten Stuckmann was forced off with a shoulder injury against Port Vale last Tuesday - and with doubts surrounding the German’s fitness, Neal has been brought in to provide extra cover.

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson said last week that should Stuckmann face a spell out he had confidence in number two stopper Marko Marosi but would not be comfortable putting Under 18s goalkeeper Louis Jones on the bench.

Neal, 30, has made one substitute appearance for Vale this season.

He missed the start of the campaign with a serious ankle injury and has since seen his place taken by former Newcastle goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who signed a permanent deal with the Valiants in October after impressing on loan.
