Doncaster Rovers set to rotate squad for visit of Premier League new boys Middlesbrough
Darren Ferguson will continue to rotate his squad as Doncaster Rovers' pre-season intensifies with back-to-back home games against Middlesbrough and Newcastle United.
Premier League new boys Boro arrive at the Keepmoat Stadium today riding on the crest of a wave, while Newcastle’s recruitment has marked them out as favourites for an instant return to the top flight.
Both games will be a stark contrast to Tuesday night’s run out at Rossington Main, where Rovers bossed possession for the entire game.
“Against Middlesbrough I imagine we’ll probably field another two teams,” said Ferguson.
“For Newcastle one team will probably do longer than the other, and then we’ll flip that over for the next game at Kidderminster.
“They’re really good games for us.
“It’ll be different because we’ll have to do more defensive work for them because they will both have a lot more of the ball.
“We’ll have to make sure we’re set up right for that. But we’ll just keep on working on things and hopefully the lads will take that into the game.
“There are certain things that we saw against Rossington that we’re hoping to take into these next two games.”
Goalkeeper Victor Valdes, a three-time Champions League winner, is set to feature for Middlesbrough.
