Doncaster Rovers have scored success off the football field - with a group of men losing a total of 13 stones at a pioneering new fitness clb.
The men from across Doncaster have changed their lives with the help of Club Doncaster Foundation’s Fit Rovers scheme – a free health and fitness programme based at the Keepmoat Stadium.
For the past eight weeks, the group have met for weekly interactive workshops and exercise sessions tailored to the needs of every individual, with some incredible results.
Confidentially weighed and measured at the start of the course, the group had by week eight lost a combined 13 stone, something CDF’s Scott Copeland is proud of.
He said: “It’s amazing what you can achieve when you really work at something and these guys have taken everything we said on board and the results are clear.”
“Everything we do in the workshops is really interactive and it compliments the mixture of football and exercise sessions, so I think that’s the reason the guys have really bought into what we are trying to achieve.
“It’s staggering really how much their health has improved – not only looking at the obvious signs like their weight loss, but their general health, stamina and mind set is incredible; we’re eliminating health risks such as diabetes.
“I can’t wait for the next eight weeks to start and start seeing these changes in the next group of men.”
In attendance for the final week of the course was Councillor John McHale.
He commented: "I can see why this new programme has been so popular. Nick, Scott and Tommy are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which has made everyone feel relaxed, comfortable and part of a fun and sociable group.
“I look forward to hearing about the results, but more importantly seeing more local people taking part and leading a full and healthy lifestyle."
The course includes visits from Doncaster Rovers first team players, added incentives such as sportswear and match tickets and the chance to dramatically improve lifestyle in the heart of the Keepmoat Stadium.
As well as the start of the second programme, the participants from the first still get the chance to get together for a game of football, through a brand new Fit Rovers Vets session held at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Alongside the session will run a Retro Rovers walking football session.
