John Marquis failed to convert from the spot in the goalless draw at Crawley Town with the miss coming at the height of a dominant first half for Rovers.

It was Rovers’ sixth miss from 13 penalties awarded this term and the latest to arguably cost them vital points in the promotion race.

“It was really frustrating that we couldn’t take advantage of the penalty,” Ferguson told The Star.

“When you get chances like that you need to take them.

“Six missed in the season. We dropped points when we did it against Blackpool, against Carlisle and we’ve dropped points again.

“It’s so important, in pivotal parts of the game. That’s disappointing.”

This miss was Marquis’ second of the season with Tommy Rowe, Liam Mandeville and Andy Williams also failing to convert penalties.

After back-to-back lengthy away trips, Ferguson admits he is looking forward to consecutive home games for Rovers against Cheltenham Town and Notts County.

He said: “They’re two big home games and I’ve said to the players they’re two tough games coming up.

“I watched Cheltenham on the bus on the way down to Crawley because I had a bit of time and they were outstanding against Carlisle, they battered them.

“They’ve beaten both Carlisle and Luton recently.

“There will be no complacency and we certainly did not show any of that against Crawley.

“There was a lot of good things but it’s disappointing to not win it.”
